Local Issues and Party Politics
My friend, Dr. Katja May, started an email discussion with me that I would like to post here as the beginning of a discussion:
"I would like to know how one can combine the local issues with party politics."
We were talking about traffic safety for our kids in Sammamish, and how the PTSA hasn't seemed to pick up on it, and how efforts to talk to the City about it are lengthy and difficult.
Trying to mobilize interest parties and encourage an "intimidated public" to speakup are part of what we need to be doing in the 5th Dems. How do we pick and choose our issues? So far, I've only seen efforts to monitor Olympia. What about bringing our Democratic Party voice to local, local efforts like changing the speed limit on one city street or adding a cross walk for more safety?
